“Pengelly Retreat is a true hidden gem, located in a tranquil and unspoilt rural location between the north and south coasts of Cornwall.  The serenity of Pengelly Retreat is ideal for those looking to practice yoga. Whilst guests are welcome to lay down their mats anywhere, one of the best outside yoga and meditation spots is on the deck overlooking the lake with the sound of the water all around.”

Canine Cornwall website review – November 2022

“Set amongst nature, The Sail House Yurt offers a peaceful spot to stay with your dog in tow. If you’re after a low impact getaway that is in keeping with the natural beauty of the landscape, this little luxury yurt is a brilliant idea.”

Meet Me By The Sea Blog – October 2022

“I don’t think a night away from home could possibly be more perfect… To spend the night in the Sail House Yurt at Pengelly Retreat in Cornwall was a dream.  The best way to describe this magical retreat is to imagine the romantic boat lake scene in ‘The Notebook’ and then recreate it in Cornwall.”

Located near the pretty town of Porthleven in Cornwall, this beautiful yurt is made for two. Set in five acres of gardens – with a lake, meadow and forest nearby – guests will feel totally secluded. Ideal for outdoorsy types, you can surf the waves on the local beaches and explore the best walking routes in the area. Request a barbecue box so you can sample the best of Cornish produce during you stay or explore the many restaurants and cafés in town – The Mussel Shoal is a must.

Conde Nast Traveller – The Best AirBnBs in Cornwall – December 2020

“There’s something endlessly soothing about retreating to a cabin in the countryside – all the better if it’s set over water, like this boathouse in West Cornwall. Glass doors open up from the open-plan, white-washed interior onto the balcony, which overlooks the lake. There are steps straight into the water for a bracing wild swim, and there’s a private garden surrounded by wildflowers.  Not far from the Boat House and owned by the same young couple, this glamping yurt, set in five acres of gardens, has views of the lake from the bed. There’s a freestanding bathtub (unheard of in traditional camping) and a woodburner to keep warm, a private pontoon for sunbathing or jumping off of and a sweet little kitchen for whipping up breakfast or lunch.

Stella Magazine, The Sunday Telegraph – 30 August 2020

“The Sail House at Pengelly Retreat:  Best for…. posh glamping.  This giant double yurt is set in five acres of private land amid wild lakes that are great for swimming and catch-and-release fishing for wild brown trout.  The yurt has underfloor heating, electric lighting and a proper bathroom – the bathtub has beautiful views.”

Coast Magazine – June 2020

“Guests often say they feel something special when they stay at Pengelly. With no traffic noise to keep them awake, no light pollution to stop them gazing at the stars and all the time in the world to linger in the grounds under the watchful eye of the comtemplative Buddhas, it provides exactly the peace and connection to nature that Jim and Ruth first craved.”

Bridges & Balloons Blog – 35 Best Airbnbs in Cornwall – February 2021

“The Sail House at Pengelly Retreat is a luxury ensuite double yurt with underfloor heating and a log burner. It overlooks a wild swimming lake, and is a stunning, tranquil location, surrounded by nature. Pengelly Retreat is also home to the Boat House, an architect designed, fully insulated, house right on the water’s edge. You can rent both for an extra special group holiday.”

Stubble & Co Those Who Travel Blog – Kip Hideaways Top UK Wilderness Retreats – September 2020

“The Boat House Cabin: This magical little retreat is surrounded by 5 acres of wild gardens, forest and lakes. You can breakfast on the deck all year round — a real suntrap, even in winter — then BBQ at night, or cook up hampers of excellent local produce. Birders will love seeing herons stalk through the shallows and kingfishers dart through the trees; stargazers will be blown away by the sparkling constellations. And if you’re feeling really romantic, take the little rowing boat for a spin around the lake, perhaps with a bottle of fizz to really mark the occasion. Days will pass in a dreamlike fashion.”

The Cornish Life Blog – November 2019

Just look at this stunning sunrise view we were met with on Wednesday morning! I leaped out of bed to take a photo; it all looked so magical with the glassy reflections of the lake. The Boat House has a lovely covered deck area with chairs to lounge in just outside the glass doors – perfect for a morning coffee.
